About the Area > Mount Pleasant

Over the last ten years, Mt. Pleasant has become the fastest growing area in the Charleston area. It offers a limitless variety of shopping and services while also boasting the some of the newest and most highly regarded neighborhoods in the area. It is located just minutes from the beaches of Sullivan's Island and Isle of Palms as well as the golf courses and recreation of Daniel Island .

Mount Pleasant is located just east of Charleston over the new Ravenel Bridge pictured on this website.

It was founded in 1680 and is the home of Shem Creek (known for its shrimp boats and seafood restaurants) ... and the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum . The State Ports Authority's Wando River terminal is also in Mount Pleasant .

In 2005, Mt. Pleasant was named one of the nation's "Best Places to Retire" by CNNMoney.com. That's because few Southern towns the size of Mt. Pleasant offer such a diverse nature. Residents can enjoy an old-fashioned ice cream soda at the Pitt Street Pharmacy in the Old Village , sip on a piping hot cappuccino at Starbucks in Towne Center, and end the day chatting over cocktails dockside at one of Shem Creek's many waterfront restaurants.
